Watching Available
Free Disk Space

Jeff

I'm looking for a software utility which can run on an Alpha server platform, to watch for free disk space and send an E-mail when a certain threshold is reached.

Is this possible?

Yes! I have written such a utility in DCL which runs as a spawned subprocess or as a batch job. It's called ALERT_DISK.COM and is available from my Utilities or DCL page.

Each process running this command procedure monitors one disk, and if the amount of free blocks goes below a specified limit, and OPCOM message is issued, and eMail is sent to specified users.

If an alert is issued, the process suspends itself and wait until the amount of free disk space goes above another specified limit before it rearms itself.
