Virtual Memory
Limits Exceeded

Dear Jeff,

I recently acquired a VAXstation 3100 at the MIT flea, and I was able to successfully install OpenVMS with the hobbyist CD available from DECUS. My only problem with the system is DEC C. I'm trying to compile lynx, and a few other useful applications, but the compiler always dumps out with:

%CLI-F-TEXT, Compiler abort - virtual memory limits exceeded.

%SYSTEM-F-ABORT, abort

How do i fix this?

Thanks, Josh

Josh,

You need to look at the C installation manual. Somwhere there it lists the requirements for SYSGEN parameters and user authorization quotas.

For this particular problem, you need to increase the user authorization file quota called PGFLQUOTA for all users who are going to use C.

What ever value you increase it to must be less than or equal to the SYSGEN parameter VIRTUALPAGCNT. If necessary you can increase the SYSGEN parameter in MODPARAMS.DAT and perform an AUTOGEN.

Jeff
